Focusing At Work While Depressed

Focusing at work can sometimes seem even harder than the rest of your day. That could be because you aren’t able to listen to music, or because there are so many more distractions. How do you fix it so you are able to get everything done that needs to be complete? The first step you can take is to decide that you will complete 5 tasks in the day. After completing the tasks, reward yourself with a snack, or a rest.

Another way to do this is to program rest periods into your day. After you work for an hour, give yourself a five or ten minute break. This will give you time to settle yourself and bring yourself back to where you need to be. It will help you because you won't get as overwhelmed when you look at it in pieces. By preventing yourself from getting overwhelmed, you'll be less likely to shut down.

Another way to keep focused is by keeping a pencil around you. Hold onto the pencil and twirl it, or click on it. This will allow you to keep your hands busy and you will be able to channel any nervous energy through the pencil, instead of causing you to lose focus because of it.

Finally, eliminate some of the problems that cause you to be distracted. If your phone ringing is causing you problems, then take it off the hook or turn the ringer off so that you won’t be able to hear it. If e-mails are flooding in, then you can turn off your e-mail program. That will help you keep focused at work.
